About Pétanque
Pétanque is a form of boules where the goal is to toss or roll hollow steel balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called a cochonnet (literally “piglet”) or jack, while standing inside a circle with both feet on the ground. The game is normally played on hard dirt or gravel. It can be played in public areas in parks, or in dedicated facilities called boulodromes. Similar games are bocce, bowls and (adapted to ice) curling.
The current form of the game originated in 1907 or 1910 in La Ciotat, in Provence, France. The French name pétanque (borrowed into English, with or without the acute accent) comes from petanca in the Provençal dialect of the Occitan language, deriving from the expression pès tancats, meaning ‘feet fixed’ or ‘feet planted’ (on the ground)
After the development of the all-metal boule, pétanque spread rapidly from Provence to the rest of France.

On Wednesday, June 21st, The Rooftop at Taj Boston will be transformed into a chic Pop-Up Rosé Lounge to toast the first day of summer and the summer solstice. Boasting one of the most dramatic views in the Back Bay, the rooftop lounge – located 17 stories up – features views from the State House and Boston Common to Fenway Park and The Charles River.
Partnering with Whispering Angel, the evening will feature a variety of wines and, of course, bubbles. Chef Gidda, has prepared a menu of small bites to perfectly complement the wines, and the space will be transformed into a sophisticated lounge perfect for the first official evening of summer.
Tickets are $65 per person, inclusive of tax and gratuity and include all food and beverage for the evening with live entertainment. The Rose Lounge opens at 6:00 p.m.

Celebrate the 4th 52 Stories Up
Sky-High Fourth of July kicks off at 6:00pm with a one-hour welcome reception with an open bar and passed hors d’oeuvres, followed by a five course seated dinner. Live music will be provided by The Liz Tobias Trio until the simulcast of the Boston Pops performance from the Hatch Shell. Guests will also have a perfect view of the fireworks over the Charles River, beginning at approximately 10:30 (weather permitting).
