At most places of business, Friday is casual day, but at L’Espalier, the atmosphere is most relaxed at the beginning of the week. The first of its kind in Boston, the Wine Monday series was conceived during one of Chef McClelland and then Wine Director, Erik Johnson’s midnight sessions in the wine cellar, “pulling corks” and pondering the ultimate food and wine combinations.

Since its inception in 2002, Wine Monday evenings have consisted of a selection of wines, inspired by the changing seasons, wine regions or varietals, paired with a five-course tasting menu composed by Chef McClelland. With menus and pairings ranging from the classical to the adventurous, guests at Wine Mondays are often the first to taste a dish that ultimately shows up on L’Espalier’s Prix Fixe menu.

Participants are seated to foster lively conversation, while sommelier Lauren C. Daddona leads an engaging, informal talk that is appropriate for a range of enthusiasts, from newcomers to experienced wine lovers.

National Chowder Day at Davio’s Back Bay

In case you didn’t know, Thursday, February 25th is National Clam Chowder Day and since Boston has history as a chowder hub, it seems the perfect time to enjoy a cup. Davio’s in Back Bay is serving up the iconic soup for just $5 each all day. They’ve loaded up their seafood stew with littleneck clams, Niman Applewood smoked bacon and baby Yukon gold potatoes—available during lunch (11:30am-3:00pm) and dinner (5:00-11:00pm) service. If you’re in a rush and need a quick bite to eat, their takeout location is just across the road at 10 St James Street and will be open from 11:30am-12:00am.
