Jari Boutique
Jari Boutique is a womens' clothing and accessories store that has found a new home in the Back Bay. On the corner of Clarendon Street and Commonwealth Avenue, the location offers the convenience of being in the heart of the Back Bay yet just around the corner from the shopping bustle of Newbury Street. With a gracious staff and an old-fashioned boutique decor, Jari Boutique is a unique new destination for shoppers.
"I find that there is a romance in old things," says Jari Ford, the store's owner. "The sensibility of European clothing appeals to me." By developing a name for herself in the clothing business over the past 18 years, Jari has managed to find a unique niche as an independent clothing retailer. After owning a clothing store in Portsmouth New Hampshire, Jari made the move to Boston where she opened her first boutique on Beacon Hill.
"My customers really liked the idea of having their own neighborhood store," she said. "There is a loyalty that they develop toward the place when they feel they can drop in at any time and browse through our collection." Unlike large department stores and corporate brand outlets, Jari prided herself in the shop's neighborhood appeal and the intimacy that comes along with shopping in a privately owned and operated boutique. By popular demand, she opened a second store in the South End. After juggling the two locations, Jari followed the encouragement of her staff to make the move to the Back Bay.
"My staff kept encouraging me to find a place where we could join forces between the two stores," she explained. "We are delighted with the new space." The Clarendon Street location has turned out to be an excellent home for the larger and more extensive new store.
The benefit of having the new space, Jari says, is that the store can now offer its customers a greater spectrum of choice between styles. The wider selection makes it much easier to find the right fit for her customers. Even though the store is so much bigger, Jari still maintains her commitment to choosing garments individually and buying them in small quantities. This ensures that the store's products are of high quality and that there are always fresh options available.
"It's always new and different," she says.
Shipments of new clothing arrive nearly every day that replenish the shelves with assortments of fresh styles and cuts. Customers often walk out of their way to see the boutique's ever-changing display of new clothes, and it is important, Jari says, for customers to feel comfortable dropping in just to check out the day's new offerings.
As for the prices – Jari Boutique is a specialty store that hand-picks its own garments, however customers need not be weary of inflated prices. Customers can rest assured that the convenient, off-Newbury-Street location makes it possible to offer lower prices.
"We offer what every fashion-loving woman needs: wearable, stylish clothes that can take them from day to night and travel well."
