Back Bay restaurants have some decadent surprises in store for lovebirds this Valentine’s Day. We’ve rounded up some of our favorites to help you decide where to treat your sweetheart.
776 Boylston Street
Add a French flair to your Valentine’s Day at Bar Boulud, the Mandarin Oriental’s classic French bistro with a New England twist. Bar Boulud’s three-course prix-fixe menu offers favorites like Parisian gnocchi and foie gras torchon. It also features an optional middle course of shaved black truffle over housemade tagliatelle. Wine pairings from the restaurant’s impressive list are also available. This special menu is available February 14 – 16.
The Bristol at the Four Seasons Boston
200 Boylston Street
Nothing says luxury like the Four Seasons. This Valentine’s Day, treat your sweetheart to a decadent five-course prix-fixe dinner overlooking the snow-covered Public Gardens at The Bristol. The menu features warm, luxurious flavors, like whipped mascarpone stuffed Medjool dates, Louis Roederer and butter poached kusshi oysters, and truffle and brioche stuffed Cornish hens — among other options. The “sweet finale” is a chocolate souffle — but that’s not the end. Walk away with a boxed mignardise … and if you make it a night with the Romantic Getaway package, you won’t have to go far before relaxing in luxury with your sweets.
Bistro du Midi
272 Boylston Street
A perennial date night favorite, Bistro du Midi is offering a five-course prix-fixe menu in their dining room just off the Public Garden. Menu highlights include Hopkins Farm braised lamb daube with black truffle potato puree, aged goat cheese, and crispy onion; Brandt beef filet mignon with mushroom duxelles, puff pastry, and black garlic bordelaise; and Crescent Farms duck breast with baby kale, husk cherries, turnips, and spiced chocolate duck jus. Wine pairings are available and strongly recommended.
The Capital Grille
900 Boylston Street
Any date night at The Capital Grille is a special one. A Valentine’s date night at The Capital Grille is something that your sweetheart will never forget. Treat your love to a feast of epic proportions with The Capital Grille’s extensive menu of steak, seafood, and wine. Try the Grand Plateau, with jumbo lump crab, North Atlantic lobster, shrimp cocktail, and oysters on the half shell or their decadent New England clam chowder. You can’t go wrong with the seared tenderloin with butter poached lobster tails (or literally any of their other entrees) — the only wrong move that you can make is not saving room for dessert.
City Table at The Lenox
65 Exeter Street
This Valentine’s Day, City Table is offering up a bevvy of specials, in addition to their regular menu. Start with the hand cut filet tartare with cognac dressing, smoked salt, quail egg, and brown bread toast, goat cheese polenta with fresh black truffles, or grilled Ahi tuna. Entree specials include chicken two ways (breast and confit) and a grilled porterhouse for two, served with creamed spinach, roasted sweet potatoes, and béarnaise. For dessert, there’s the creme brulee trio — coconut, chocolate, and grand marnier, with sugar cookies. Valentine’s specials are available February 14 -16.
Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse
75 Arlington Street
Davio’s three-course Valentine’s Day menu is almost as epic as your love. With ten appetizer options — including favorites like hand-rolled potato gnocchi with shaved white truffles, Maine lobster agnolotti with truffle cream, and an oven baked lump crab cake with whole grain mustard — and nine entree, or caserecci, options, everyone will find something that speaks to them. We have our eye on the pan roasted Maine lobster with creamy potatoes, green beans, and lemon tarragon butter, the center cut Filet Mignon and gratin potatoes and Bordelaise, and the grilled center cut veal chop with creamy potatoes, asparagus, and porcini mushroom au jus. Dessert is our favorite course and we can’t wait to try the warm chocolate cake with all of its delicious accompaniments. Valentine’s Day menu is available on February 14 only.
