Fairmont Copley Plaza Says “Bye-Bye” to Plastic Water Bottles

The iconic Back Bay hotel just got a little greener.

Fairmont Copley Plaza’s chic blue and plum colored guest rooms in Boston’s Back Bay look greener — and we’re not talking about a paint job. The hotel has removed all plastic water bottles from refreshment centers in its 383 guestrooms and on its in-room dining menu, further reducing its plastic footprint and welcoming visitors in a more eco-friendly fashion. Last April, the hotel’s restaurant, OAK Long Bar + Kitchen, stopped using plastic straws.

The fully recyclable alternative is not only green, it’s from a locally headquartered (Cohasset, MA) women-owned and operated beverage startup called Everybody Water. This is the company’s first formalized hotel distribution partnership solidified via Co-Founders Megan Hayes and Kimberly Reilly. Currently, Everybody Water is only available in select New England stores and online by case/subscription.

Everybody Water’s carton packaging is 100% recyclable. Paper in the paperboard is a renewable resource sourced from responsibly managed forests, with a bio-based cap sourced from sugarcane. Furthermore, Everybody Water donates a portion of proceeds to their exclusive nonprofit partner, Water1st International, to fund sustainable clean water projects in communities across the globe that otherwise do not have access to running water and sanitation, enabling women and girls to stop carrying water and begin attending school to thrive.

“We searched a long time for the perfect partner to help our mission to eliminate single-use plastic water bottles from the guest experience, and were thrilled to find a solution in our own backyard, right here in Massachusetts,” said Jean-Philippe Cote, Director of Food & Beverage at Fairmont Copley Plaza. “Our work with Everybody Water allows our guests to travel greener, and also gives the hotel an opportunity to support a women-owned business, another corporate initiative we take just as seriously as sustainability.”

“We are thrilled to join arms with Fairmont Copley Plaza supporting their corporate sustainability mission to replace single-use plastic water bottles with our eco-friendly cartons,” said Megan Hayes and Kimberly Reilly, Co-Founders of Everybody Water. “This collaboration is tangible proof that everybody—consumers and businesses alike—has the power to make amazing change happen.”

Hotel guests can enjoy Everybody Water for $5 (plus tax) by taking a carton from their room’s refreshment center or by ordering directly from the in-room dining menu.
