Gardens of the Arts & Crafts Movement, Judith B. Tankard at NEHGS

In this illustrated lecture, landscape scholar Judith B. Tankard surveys the inspiration, characteristics, and development of garden design during the Arts & Crafts Movement.

Tankard presents a selection of houses and gardens of the era from Britain and the United States, with an emphasis on the diversity of designers who helped forge a truly distinct approach to garden design. Her lecture is the first event in a series of exhibition programming for The Gardens of Rose Standish Nichols, 1890-1935 opening May 16, 2019 at the Nichols House Museum.

Judith B. Tankard is a landscape historian, award-winning author, and preservation consultant. She taught at the Landscape Institute of Harvard University for more than twenty years. She is the author or coauthor of ten books on landscape history, including Gardens of the Arts & Crafts Movement, Ellen Shipman and the American Garden and Beatrix Farrand: Private Gardens, Public Landscapes. A popular lecturer in the United States and Britain, Judith is a speaker at symposia and conferences devoted to the preservation of historic landscapes.

Presented by The Slater Foundation, the event includes a cocktail reception featuring Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Arias Wine, gourmet hors d’oeuvres and a premium silent auction with mobile bidding. An exciting speaking program with Emcees Maria Stephanos and Emily Riemer of WCVB Channel 5 follows with special appearance by Red Sox legend David Ortiz and a live auction hosted by Sue Brady Hartigan of iHeart Radio. The evening culminates with a fashion show featuring the latest trends curated by Bloomingdale’s and modeled by the newswomen of WCVB, Ellie Fund patients and members of the Newton Firefighters Association. From the Vault – Vintage Fashion Show @ School of Fashion Design

Join School of Fashion Design to celebrate 85 years in fashion education!

SFD has dug deep into their closets and dusted off dozens of collectible donated garments spanning several decades of great fashion and they’re delighted to share them with you at a live fashion show of collectible vintage fashions donated to SFD over the decades.

The evening will also include a gallery talk with Ren Antonowicz, Historic Costume & Textiles expert, a display of donated works by acclaimed Boston designer Francesco “Ches” DiRusso, a gallery of vintage SFD photos from the 30s, 60s, and 90s, and an exciting announcement from SFD.

General admission is $34, celebrating their 1934 founding

Join Hall of Famer and 3x Super Bowl champion Tedy Bruschi during the Thursday Night Football broadcast of the Patriots v. Giants game

The Lenox Hotel is the place to be on Thursday night October 10th!

Tedy Bruschi will be here to provide pre-game intro, half-time and post-game analysis while the longtime rival Patriots and Giants square up during the live NFL broadcast.

Proceeds from the event will benefit TEDY’S TEAM, Tedy’s foundation that raises awareness of stroke and heart disease while supporting survivors on their journey.
