Rescue & Jessica: A Life Changing Friendship 

Join us on Saturday, April 14, from 2–3:30 p.m., during marathon weekend for an inspiring afternoon story time and book signing event from the authors of Rescue and Jessica: A Life-Changing Friendship. Based on a real-life partnership, this new children’s picture book is a heartening story of the love and teamwork between a girl and her Service Dog, and will be released in April just ahead of the fifth anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Co-authors Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes, survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing who both lost legs as result, along with Jessica’s Service Dog, Rescue, will read Rescue and Jessica to guests and sign purchased copies of the book*. NEADS, the organization that trained Rescue as a Service Dog and placed him with Jessica, will be in attendance to further educate about its work and the importance of service dogs. Carly Copley, Fairmont Copley Plaza’s beloved canine ambassador and fellow black lab, will also be present to meet the crowd. A selection of sweet treats (cookies, of course!) and beverages (milk, coffee, tea, lemonade) will be served.

To reserve a ticket to the event, we ask for a $10 donation per adult and $5 donation per child. 100 percent of these proceeds will be donated to NEADS to support its remarkable mission and services.

*Copies of Rescue and Jessica will be available to purchase at the event thanks to Belmont Books, a Belmont-based bookstore, for $16.99 each.

Rescue thought he’d grow up to be a Seeing Eye dog — it’s the family business, after all. When he gets the news that he’s better suited to being a Service Dog, he’s worried that he’s not up to the task. Then he meets Jessica, a girl whose life is turning out differently than she’d imagined it, too. Now Jessica needs Rescue by her side to help her accomplish everyday tasks. The Bristol Restaurant & Bar makes Hump Day the best day of the week with their Burgers & Burgundy. Every Wednesday night, burger lovers can enjoy the object of their gastronomic desire paired with tastings of two Burgundian-style wines. It’s a tasty little opportunity to try something new as the paired wines, chosen by the in-house wine director, will be from bottles that aren’t regularly available by the glass. Burgers & Burgundy costs $35 per person not including tax or gratuity – the burger itself is on the menu (augmented, as it is, with Vermont cheddar, house-made pickles and truffle fries) for twenty bucks so it’s not a bad deal. Fourth of July at Top of the Hub

This July 4th, raise a glass 52 stories high to America as you watch the fireworks from the top of the Prudential Tower at Top of the Hub. The fun starts at 6:00 pm with a Chef’s welcome reception, a champagne toast, passed apps, and (most importantly) an open bar. At 7:30 you’ll sit for a decadent five-course dinner with a cash bar and accompanying live music, and at 8:30 you’ll be treated to a simulcast of the Boston Pops concert on the Esplanade. Finally, end the evening with a bang as the fireworks pop off at eye level.
