Consider joining a lineage society! Meet with representatives from a number of national and local hereditary societies (including the Daughters of the American Revolution, Society of the Cincinnati, the Mayflower Society, Sons of the American Revolution, Society of Colonial Wars, and others) to learn more about the organization, the application process, and requirements.

This is a free, drop-in activity open to the public with a brief presentation at 11:00 am (and repeated at 2:00 pm). Registration is encouraged.

Beers & Bites: Spencer Brewery

Have you ever had beer brewed by monks? Here’s your chance to try Spencer Brewery beer!

Come taste beer with Spencer Brewery, one of only 14 Trappist breweries in the world and the only one in the United States. Kevin Kervick, co-manager of sales and marketing, will present the great story of monks making beer in both Europe and America. He will also guide you through a tasting of their incredible beers, including their classic Trappist Ale.

Ticket includes a flight of Spencer Trappist beer with delectable bar bites specially created and matched to the beer by the Newsfeed Cafe’s chef.

Come at 6:00pm to find a seat and mingle. Guided tasting starts at 6:30pm.

From Salem, Massachusetts, Notch Brewing has earned praise and admiration from brew lovers for its lower alcohol “session” styles of beers. Spend an evening with us while we explore the classic styles of Lager Brewing from a master of these styles, Chris Lohring. In this class, hosted by Chris himself, guests will:

  • Taste through a selection of Notch Brewing Co. beers selected by brewmaster Chris Lohring
  • Learn what are the contributing factors to making these styles
  • Learn the differences between lagers and ales, and the history of how these styles came to be
  • Converse during our Question and Answer section of the class
  • Enjoy a selection of our house made sausages, the perfect pair for these styles of beer

Join the 5th Annual Dana-Farber Unmask Cancer Gala to Benefit Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.

 

This exotic rainforest-themed evening will include dancing, dinner by-the-bite, creative cocktails, and music by DJ Joey Carvello. There will also be a live and silent auction, as well as exciting opportunity drawing items from various sponsors.

Gardens of the Arts & Crafts Movement, Judith B. Tankard at NEHGS

In this illustrated lecture, landscape scholar Judith B. Tankard surveys the inspiration, characteristics, and development of garden design during the Arts & Crafts Movement.

Tankard presents a selection of houses and gardens of the era from Britain and the United States, with an emphasis on the diversity of designers who helped forge a truly distinct approach to garden design. Her lecture is the first event in a series of exhibition programming for The Gardens of Rose Standish Nichols, 1890-1935 opening May 16, 2019 at the Nichols House Museum.

Judith B. Tankard is a landscape historian, award-winning author, and preservation consultant. She taught at the Landscape Institute of Harvard University for more than twenty years. She is the author or coauthor of ten books on landscape history, including Gardens of the Arts & Crafts Movement, Ellen Shipman and the American Garden and Beatrix Farrand: Private Gardens, Public Landscapes. A popular lecturer in the United States and Britain, Judith is a speaker at symposia and conferences devoted to the preservation of historic landscapes.
