Cook Better, Live Better: Food and Film – Italian-American Classics at Eataly
Mar 20 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Food and Film

In both Italian and Italian-American films, scenes that feature a specific food or traditional dish stand the test of time in the hearts of movie lovers. Who can forget Clemenza teaching Michael Corleone how to prepare tomato sauce with sausage and meatballs in The Godfather? Back in Italy, Alberto Sordi famously devours a plate of maccheroni wearing a baseball cap in the iconic and hilarious film, Un Americano a Roma. These films all reaffirm the importance of food in Italian culture as a means of bringing family and friends together. To have a good meal is one of life’s pure enjoyments that is so thoroughly and infinitely understood by Italians, and at Eataly, we like to share this sentiment with our guests.

Eataly

Join us at La Scuola for our first class about food in films. The class menu will be based on the Italian American mafia classics, The Godfather and Goodfellas, where mobsters expertly prepare a “Sunday sauce” and Sicilian cannolis are never left behind in a heist. In this class, guests will:

  • Help prepare a meal based on the famous food scenes from The Godfather and Goodfellas
  • Participate in a hands-on cooking experience with La Scuola’s chef
  • Enjoy three courses with paired wines
  • Learn more about wine and wine pairing from and Eataly sommelier
  • Take home menu, adapted recipes, and wine tasting notes

Fish Auction at Eataly Boston
Mar 30 @ 5:00 pm – 5:45 pm

“Five clams, 10 clams, do I hear 20?” For one day only, you can bid on your seafood dinner!

That’s right. Nodding to Good Friday — when Italians traditionally eat seafood instead of meat — we are holding our second bustling fish auction right in the heart of our market on Friday, March 30, from 5-5:45 p.m.!

Bring your A game because we’re going to be auctioning off the highest quality seafood at incredible prices, starting at wholesale value. Before beginning the bidding process, our energetic auctioneer will describe each fish, from the dock to the auction block. Judging by the season (yes, fish is seasonal, too), we will be offering a variety of species, from cod to baby octopus to snapper.

Eataly Boston Fish

Early on March 30, we will receive the morning’s delivery of fresh seafood from John Nagle Co., a Boston-based distributor that has been bringing quality seafood to New England since 1887. The family-run company continues to be committed to their century-old traditions and values within the seafood industry, working with small-scale fisheries that follow sustainable and traditional practices considering the long-term vitality of the species and the oceans.

So, when you bring home your winnings, you will be supporting a better environment — for the fishermen, your dinner, and beyond.

Let the bidding begin! No need to register for our fish auction; standing room and paddles are first come, first served.

Earth Day 2018 at Eataly Boston
Apr 21 @ 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Tastings by Sustainable Producers

Every year, Earth Day reminds us to celebrate our planet, protect the environment, and reflect upon our impact as humans.

From recycling to bicycling, our daily choices can make a difference. This year, join Eataly as we choose to support our local producers, whose sustainable products are good (taste delicious), clean (don’t hurt the environment), and fair (treat employees well).

Earth Day

From 12-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, our marketplace will be transformed into an open farmer’s market featuring over a dozen of our local producers, who will offer complimentary tastes of their sustainable products that are regularly stocked at Eataly. From cheese to charcuterie to wine, our producers will share the stories behind their wares, in addition to suggestions on how to incorporate them into recipes.

Then, on April 22, enjoy 50% off compostable espresso capsules! This line by Caffè Vergnano, Italy’s oldest roasting company, is the first range of compostable capsules compatible with Nespresso machines. Send these capsules back to the Earth through a commercial composting system.
